The Grotta is located in Calitri in the province of Avellino, in the green Irpinia, on the border between the regions of Campania, Puglia and Basilicata, in an extremely strategic position to reach the main centers of the south of Italy. Naples, Bari, Matera are less than two hours, Avellino, Salerno, Foggia, and Potenza are 50 minutes away.
How To Reach Us
Reaching Calitri, a charming village in the heart of Alta Irpinia, is a pleasant experience that allows you to immerse yourself in the scenic beauty of Southern Italy. Here are some directions to get there easily, either by car or public transportation.
Drive:
Calitri is well connected by the road network, making car the more convenient way to get there.
From Naples take the A16 highway to the Avellino Est exit. From here follow the signs for SS7 Ofantina in the direction of Lioni - Calitri.
From Bari take the A16 highway again and take the Lacedonia exit. From here, Calitri is about a 30-minute drive away, following signs for SS401.
From Salerno take the A2 highway towards Reggio Calabria to the Contursi exit. From here continue in the direction of Lioni and then SS7 Ofantina to Calitri.
Coming from Rome, on the other hand, take the A1 highway to Caserta, then continue in the direction of Avellino, and then the SS7 Ofantina.
Train and bus:
For those traveling by train to Naples Central station, Calitri can be reached by AIR regional buses to Avellino and from there Autolinee Di Maio to Calitri.
To reach La Grotta di Suonn’ Suonn’:
Once in Calitri, La Grotta di Suonn' Suonn' is easily accessible from the historic center. Follow the signs to the ancient village: as you cross the narrow streets winding among the colorful houses and small alleys, you will find yourself immersed in an atmosphere out of time. The Grotta is in an enchanting location, perfect for admiring the surrounding valley and allowing yourself to be enveloped by the quietness and charm of history.
